Feil Family and Weill Family Residence Hall Application

We are thrilled to announce the new Feil Family and Weill Family Residence Hall will officially open on August 1. In conjunction with this exciting milestone, we will launch a new housing application process specifically for this residence building.

Please take a moment to read the details below carefully, as the information is important and time-sensitive.

Review Recorded Information Session

Christina DeRose, Director of Leasing and Space Management, hosted a virtual information session on Wednesday, June 25, at 6:00 PM  to discuss the Feil Family and Weil Family Residence Hall application process further.

You are encouraged to  review the session’s slide deck or recorded presentation for an in-depth overview of the process and Q&A period.

General Overview

The Housing Office has partnered with StarRez—our housing software vendor—to upgrade the housing application system. The Family and Weill Family Residence Hall presents the opportunity to introduce a new way of processing housing applications. Our goal is a streamlined system that is transparent and user-friendly and allows you to have more agency in the selection process.

Key Changes

Profile Creation

Prior to opening the room selection process, students will be asked to log into WCM’s Housing Portal and create a housing profile. Profile information includes name, current living location, and contact information.

  • If you currently live in WCM Housing, please review the login instructions here.
  • If you do not live in WCM Housing, please review the registration instructions here.

Additionally, your profile will allow you to consent to sharing your name with future roommates. Due to federal education privacy laws (FERPA), the Housing Office is unable to disclose housing information without your consent. In the past, this has prohibited us from disclosing future roommates’ contact information to each other. If you choose to allow the Housing Office to share your contact information, we can put roommates in touch with each other before moving in.

Roommate Matching

If you intend to live with a roommate in the Family and Weill Family Residence Hall and know your preferred roommate in advance, the WCM Housing Portal will allow you to link your applications together. You can also designate a leader for your pairing who can make decisions for both of you during the selection process.

Points

You will be assigned a time to log back into the WCM Housing Portal based on your points; those with the highest number of points will go first. You may log in at any time between your designated start time and the date applications close.

Points Structure:

  • All off-campus students: 1 point
  • 1st year WCM & MSK residents: 2 points
  • 2nd year WCM & MSK residents: 3 points
  • 3rd year WCM & MSK residents: 4 points

Room Selection

Rather than the Housing Office informing you which apartment you will live in, you select your apartment. If you link your application with your preferred roommate, the designated leader of your pairing can pick the apartment and bedrooms for both parties.

All floorplans and pricing for the new building are located here.

After you log in, you will see all available rooms—both studios and two-shares—and can select the one you want. Once you have selected a room for either yourself or your roommate, the room is reserved and cannot be selected by anyone else.

If you entered the process with a roommate and do not find any desirable two-shares available, you can unlink your application, and each roommate can look for a room individually or opt out of the housing process and remain where you are.

You can exit the housing application process at any time.

Move-In Dates

Residents will be able to move into the new building beginning August 1. After you have selected your unit, you can choose a move-in date and time that works best for you.

Annual Housing Reassignment Process 2025 - 2026

The annual housing reassignment process is your opportunity to share your housing preferences for the upcoming academic year.

  • Please click here to learn more about eligibility, application deadlines, and the points and lottery system that guides the reassignment process.
  • Review below frequently asked questions about the reassignment process, general student housing, family housing, and the new student residence opening in August 2025.

Reassignment Process

I want to stay in my current residence and do not want to move? Do I need to do anything?

Please complete the housing survey and indicate that you wish to remain in your current housing.

How is housing priority determined?

WCM uses a points system to allocate housing. For students living on-campus, rising second-year students are assigned two points; rising third-year students are assigned three points; and rising fourth-year students are assigned four points. A student is assigned a maximum of four points. Students living off-campus are assigned one point. Housing is allocated to those with the highest points first. In the event points are tied, a lottery system is used. Please note that students living in MSK housing are considered to be living on campus.

What is the timing of housing reassignment?

In 2025 there will be three housing reassignment processes.

March—Stahl reassignment

April—All other housing reassignment, except the New Student Residence.

Early summer 2025—New Student Residence

How do I find more information about the housing reassignment process?

Please click here to view the 2025 - 2026 Student Housing Reassignment Process Information Session held on February 12, 2025.

  • Since the info session, it has been determined that Memorial Sloan Kettering housing is considered on-campus, and residents will be allotted the same amount of points as residents residing in WCM housing.
  • Students who applied to Stahl but did not receive a placement for 2025 will be sent a waitlist application and will not need to email student-housing@med.cornell.edu in order to be considered for future vacancies.

If I take a leave of absence, what happens to my housing priority?

All Leave of Absences (LOA) must be approved by WCM.  LOAs are considered an off-campus move.  This includes those attending programs at other institutions.  However, if you are attending a Cornell University program, you will be considered to be remaining on campus, even if the Cornell University program is outside of NYC.

How does the Stahl waitlist work? When will it open?

If you applied to live in Stahl and did not receive a placement for 2025, you will receive a waitlist application via email on Monday, March 31. The waitlist application will close at 5:00 PM on Friday, April 4. The waitlist will not be processed on a first-come, first-served basis this year. After the waitlist closes, all applicant names will be randomized and chosen via lottery.

What are the 2025-2026 housing rates?

General Student Housing

Who is eligible for housing?

All single students are guaranteed housing. WCM provides housing to families, staff, and faculty as inventory allows.

Are junior one-bedrooms available in Stahl?

Junior one-bedroom apartments are no longer available at Stahl.

When do the 2025-2026 rents go into effect?

2025-2026 rents go into effect for all student residents on July 1, 2025.

Do you provide short-term housing or housing for visiting fellows?

Due to WCM’s limited housing inventory, short-term housing is not available.

When do I have to move out if I am graduating this year?

Congratulations!  If you are graduating from the MD program, you must vacate WCM housing by May 31. If you are graduating from the Graduate school, you must vacate WCM housing sixty days from the day you defend your dissertation.

Family Housing

What buildings include family housing?

Family housing is located at East 77th Street, Lasdon House, and the New Student Residence. Please note that WCM does not guarantee family housing.

  • Families of two are housed in studios.
  • Families of three or more are housed in one-bedroom apartments.

New Student Residence

How do I apply for housing in the new dormitory? Will I have to move twice?

WCM houses summer programs in Olin Hall.  As a result, Olin Hall must be vacated in the early summer.  If you live in Olin Hall, you will need to go through two reassignment processes, one in April in order to vacate Olin Hall by early summer 2025 and a second reassignment process in early summer to move into the New Student Residence in August 2025.  If you do not live in Olin Hall, you can stay in your current residence and apply for the New Student Residence in early Summer 2025.

Is there family housing in the New Student Residence?

Yes, family housing will be offered in the New Student Residence. Please note that WCM does not guarantee family housing. Families of two are housed in studios, and families of three or more are housed in one-bedroom apartments.

What are the rates of the New Student Residence?

Please view the rates on the New Student Residence page.

When will residents be able to move into the New Student Residence?

August 2025.
