Faculty

Weill Cornell Medicine maintains a limited number of apartments for faculty members and their families. Any full-time faculty member is welcome to apply for housing, but placement priority is given to newly-recruited research faculty. Clinical and research faculty can also apply for housing at NewYork-Presbyterian.

FAQs for Faculty

Q: Are all WCM faculty eligible to live in WCM housing?

A: Newly-recruited research faculty members are eligible to apply for WCM Housing.

Q: How long can I live in WCM housing?

A: Faculty can live in WCM housing for up to ten years. We will send you a reminder before your housing eligibility ends so you can begin looking for off-campus accommodations.

Q: Can Housing help me find an off-campus apartment?

A: Yes. We can refer you to a preferred broker who can assist you as you navigate the private market for a discounted fee. Please contact us for more information.

Q: Is a security deposit required for faculty housing?

A: Yes. It must be paid by check; we do not accept cash or credit cards for security deposits.  

Q: What happens to my housing if I’m no longer employed by Weill Cornell Medicine?

A: If your employment with WCM ends for any reason, you have up to three days from your employment end date to vacate your apartment.

Q: How do I set up utilities?

A: Water and heat are included in your rent, but you are responsible for gas and electric. You must set up your account with Con Edison—NYC’s gas and electric provider—prior to moving in.  You can also contact a local cable provider for cable TV and internet service. 

Q: Are pets permitted in faculty housing?

A: Pets are permitted in Sutton Terrace as long as they do not damage the property or disturb to other residents. (They are not permitted in the garden.) Please refer to your Housing Terms and Conditions for details on Sutton Terrace’s pet policy. 

Q: I pay my housing fee via payroll deduction and I’m moving out of WCM housing. When will my payroll deductions stop?

A: If you pay your housing fee via payroll deduction, make sure to consider the WCM payroll calendar when determining your move-out date. Your payroll deductions will only be canceled once you fully vacate your apartment and check out. If you move out after the Sunday of a payroll week, you will be charged your housing fee in that week’s paycheck and then credited in the following paycheck. Payroll dates through the remainder of 2017 are:

  • 10/6/17

  • 12/29/17
